ROSEBURG, Ore. (KMTR) - A 74-year old man was eastbound on Highway 138E near milepost 28 when the car he was driving traveled across the center line and off the north side of the highway.
Oregon State Police is continuing the investigation into Tuesday afternoon's single vehicle fatal traffic crash the resulted in the death of an elderly La Pine man along Highway 138E about twenty-eight miles east of Roseburg.
According to Lieutenant Doug Ladd, on March 12 at approximately 4:00 PM, a 2003 Dodge Durango driven by Buddy Glen Mires, age 74 from La Pine, was eastbound on Highway 138E near milepost 28 when it traveled across the center line and off the north side of the highway.
The vehicle struck a tree head-on and Mires was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was using safety restraints and the vehicle's airbags deployed.
Preliminary investigation indicates Mires may have had a medical problem that could have been a factor in the crash.
