JACKSONVILLE, Ore. (AP) — A Jacksonville rancher says three of his pregnant cows were shot this weekend, including one found mutilated by the side of the road after being dragged a half-mile.

Tim Hunter told the Mail Tribune newspaper the cows were shot Saturday morning as they were lying next to their feed bunks. Neighbors heard the shots, but didn't think much of it because it was at the end of deer season.

Hunter estimated the cows' value at about $3,600. The cows would have calved in February.

Hang-gliders who use Hunter's field are offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.
