COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (KMTR) -- Cottage Grove Rodeo organizers responded Wednesday to criticism of the Animal Scramble held at the annual event.
Local animal advocates recently posted video of the 2012 event on YouTube, calling the practice inhumane. Janetta Overholser, president of the Human Society of Cottage Grove, said rodeo officials won't listen to their concerns.
Members of the Cottage Grove Riding Club who put on the annual rodeo said that's not true and that they've tried to communicate with critics.
The group defends the scramble, maintaining it is a great opportunity for children to learn responsibility caring for a pet and families are advised to not let their children participate if they're not prepared to take an animal home.
