Eugene (KMTR) – Traditionally, Christmas tree lots open the day after Thanksgiving. But a few are already open around the area—and people are buying.
For example, a family-run lot at 32nd and Hilyard in Eugene is in its 27th year. All of their Douglas and noble firs are grown in Junction City and Cheshire.
They usually start selling around the 22nd of November every year, so they're on schedule. Dana Crumley, one of the owners, says It feels early because Thanksgiving is later this year than usual.
They are staying in a trailer on the lot, so when they say they're open until Christmas, they mean it.
"We're basically open 9:00 to 9:00, but we have people coming in at 2:00 a.m. and knock on the door and say, ‘I want to buy a tree,’ and we get up and sell 'em a tree!"
Most lots, including many run by the Boy Scouts and other organizations, are scheduled to open in the Eugene-Springfield area on the Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving.
