Stiks--It's illegal for them to give themselves "nice bonuses". The new vehicles are likely paid for by grants. In the grand scheme of things, the new patrol cars are not that expensive. I think it's time for the city of Eugene to quit leaching away the property taxes that the county collects. Instead of giving large amounts of money to schools which is then eaten up by school district "administration", maybe the distribution of tax dollar should be adjusted and some of it could be given to a worthwhile cause like, I don't know...Public safety. "Plato" seems to have the right idea: Welfare reform! Do an audit of that system. There are plenty of people on disability that are not unable to work, they just make more money on that system than they did working or they are just too lazy to work. Welfare is for the citizens of this country, not for illegal aliens. I find it sickening that the federal government has special programs for these people and that their kids actually get a better education than kids that are born in this country.

They complain about not having enough money for investigating important crimes but they can waste money on Brand new Toys when the toys they have are working fine.

One of the true purposes of government - the first purpose of government - is to create a safe environment for citizens. Taxes are quite high - high enough to prove adequate police protection instead of this shoddy performance at the city, county, and state level. Perhaps we should look where the money is going. I suggest if we quit giving benefits to illegal aliens and providing a comfortable living for those too lazy to provide it for themselves, we would be able to provide adequate law enforcement. Now a strong argument for an armed citizenry is the fact that there is insufficient law enforcement for a safe citizenry. Reis Kash
