Charleston (KMTR) - Jim Peterson was the captain of the fishing vessel Randi in Charleston.  The boat capsized a few miles off the Coos Bay jetty Monday afternoon; Peterson was never found.  He was well-known in the local fishing community, and is remembered as a friend to all.  Dena Thom of the Charleston Crab Shack called Peterson "A very giving, kind man who never had a bad word to say about anybody.  He's touched so many lives all around the world."

Peterson was part of a group called the “Tuna Guys," who brought fish to the Burning Man festival in Nevada each year.  Condolences started pouring out on the event's Facebook page this week.

A Paypal account has been set up for donations to the "Captain Jim Memorial Fund."  Family and friends will hold a private memorial this weekend.  They're plan on a public service in the spring.

I met Capt Jim at my first Burn 10 years ago and every year would make it over to The Tuna Guys camp for face time and of course, tuna. In 2011 we never made it although I came to find out the camp was only 3 blocks from our camp. I can speak for the whole of otter camp when I say that Capt Jim will be missed and I am so sorry I was unable to see him last year! This is such a tragedy!!!
