Bethel School advocates push extension of school bond measure
EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- A big push Saturday from Bethel School District members and neighbors to continue a major bond measure this November.
At least one hundred parents, kids and community leaders gathered at Willamette High on Saturday, September 8, 2012 to kick off a campaign for the upcoming bond measure.
The measure would extend the district's property tax levy at the same rate or $1.61 per every thousand dollars of assessed property value.
If it passes, Bethel School District would use the money to replace Malabon and Fairfield Elementary Schools, pay for building repairs at all schools, new classroom space at Willamette High, new computers, textbooks, playground surfaces and more.
“This will not increase your tax rate. The bonds that built our new schools are going off the books, so if you're just willing to continue your current investment, not any more, then you know, that's something people have in their budget and when it comes to schools, people are willing to support that,” says Brooke Cottle, Bethel Schools Campaign Chair.
The new schools Bethel just built Brooke mentioned include Mountain View, Prairie Mountain and Kalapuya schools. Those school bonds have already been paid off by taxpayers.
