EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) – An aspiring author is hoping to make his mark on local book shelves the week before Christmas with a unique first book.
The author is one of the first to mix the Oregon Ducks with children’s story-telling.
The Oregon Duck is loved by most kids who have seen him at football games or other sporting events.
Jake Stone makes a good point, however, that there isn’t much more involving the Oregon Duck that is specifically designed for kids besides clothing.
Stone is aiming to change that.
This week, Stone’s book, “The Oregon Duck – Pride of Autzen Stadium” hits store shelves. Officially licensed by the University of Oregon, it is only the second kids book ever about the famous icon.
Stone told NewsSource 16 he wants kids to feel the same fun, passion and champion-like ways of the duck when reading it. Stone has been working on it for about three years, since the birth of his daughter Braelyn.
"It's always been my dream to do books,” he said. “I've always liked writing and education, teaching things like that so I wanted to do a book for her. There really wasn't a lot out there for the Ducks so I figure if I am going to do one, I'll do one about the Ducks, make sure it's authentic, not cookie cutter, and that's what I think I did.”
“The Oregon Duck – Pride of Autzen Stadium” is a rhyming book full of illustrations about the Ducks antics on game day. Stone said there will also be a lot of references to Autzen’s other game day characters that parents will also pick up on.
It should be available at the Eugene Duck Store this week. Other Duck Stores, Amazon and Barnes and Noble online will stock it shortly after.
Stone plans on making more children's book in the future.
