Coos Bay (KMTR) - The family of a Coos Bay woman who was shot and severely injured by her husband has released a statement saying she continues to fight for her life at a Portland hospital.

Ashley Kendall, 22, is in critical condition at an intensive care unit in a trauma center hospital.

Police say her husband, Travis Kendall, who was 26, shot her in the back, before he committed suicide last week.

According to investigators, Travis Kendall hid in the back seat of Ashley Kendall’s Jeep, while she met with a divorce attorney Tuesday evening.  The attorney followed Ashley to her vehicle, and was driving behind her, when the Jeep suddenly stopped, and Ashley fell out, wounded by gunfire.  Police say Travis Kendall then took off in the Jeep.

The Coquille police chief says he caught up with Kendall in Myrtle Point, and shot him in the leg, after the chief said Kendall pointed a gun at him.  Authorities say Travis Kendall died when he shot himself.

Ashley Kendall has a five-month-old son, Theren.  He was taken into protective custody the day before the shootings, but he is now in the custody of family members.

In a statement released Saturday, Ashley Kendall’s family thanked her lawyer, a concerned citizen who helped at the scene, doctors, nurses and “all the countless people who got her here alive. We also want to thank God who has graciously carried her in His arms. We will be forever grateful."

A fund has been set up to help Ashley and her son.  Anyone can donate to the Ashley Kendall Fund at any US Bank branch.

Hopefully she can make a complete recovery. This is so sad to hear of this happening and right befor the holiday season. My prayers are with the family.
