An armed man is in custody after he surrendered following a non-injury officer-involved shooting by an Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper Friday night at a remote property east of Deadwood in Lane County. OSP detectives are investigating the officer-involved shooting and the suspect was arrested by Lane County deputies on several charges.

On June 29, 2012 at approximately 10:00 p.m. two OSP troopers responded to assist two Lane County deputies at a remote residence at 15853 Highway 36 to locate a wanted 53-year old felon. The wanted felon reportedly was believed to be armed and had threatened to kill a relative earlier in the day.

As deputies and troopers approached the residence on foot in the darkness, a barking dog alerted the wanted felon and he came outside armed with an assault rifle. The wanted felon walked down the driveway toward the officers' location and as he got closer the officers turned on their flashlights, verbally identified themselves and ordered the man to drop the firearm. As the man turned toward officers, an OSP trooper fired one round missing the wanted felon. The wanted felon dropped the firearm and was taken into custody without further incident.

The wanted felon was transported by Lane County deputies to the Lane County Jail and lodged on numerous charges including Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Violation of a Restraining Order, and on warrants for Assault in the Second Degree, Menacing, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and Probation Violation - Rape in the First Degree. Questions regarding the man's name and the original reported incident that led officers to the residence should be directed to Lane County Sheriff's Office.
