EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- Eugene police are investigating an alleged rape where a woman was beaten and sexually assaulted in a field near Coburg Road.

A caller reported to 911 hearing a woman screaming. When officers arrived they found the victim in a ditch and a man running from the scene. The woman, who was camping in the field, said she was beaten and raped by a transient who was also camping in the area.

Police are actively searching for a white male, 5'8", 175 pounds, with dark short hair and a goatee, last seen wearing only shorts.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Eugene Police. More details as they become available.

CETB1424 the call for medic's to assist the police dept this morning was at emerald lanes at 140 oakway rd. This was probably behind in the overgrown area.

Hey ntk0716 - my point is that they very well could be camping in my backyard. They are camping all over the city. Give them a place so they don't. And yes, I know my opinion isn't popular. But you have to be realistic. As with many problems, the next best thing to eliminating it is keeping it contained.

Rhimea...all I can do is have a look of disgust on my face and shake my head. Perhaps you wouldn't mind them all camping in your backyard then?!? On another note, I hope this loser is found by someone other than the cops and they chop his manhood off!

I am one of the few people that thought the occupy spot by the freeway was a good idea. My theory is that better to have those problems in one spot rather than spread all over the city. I also agree I don't want to give more money to our incompetent local government. However the reality is that we are going to pay one way or the other. Insurance deductibles for burglaries and property damage, police calls, etc. Bottom line, I think a camp is a good idea. I thought the occupy camp was a good idea and a good location. It's not like it hurt the neighborhood.

I wish they could be a little more specific on what part of Coburg Rd the attack happened. Coburg Rd. is a very long stretch...and then when you only say "near Coburg Rd" that could be any number of fields or areas. If the police want citizens to keep a look out for suspects, narrowing it down a little would really help. I work near I-105 and Coburg Rd, and I see a few homeless people going by all the time, maybe the suspect is one of them, but if the attack happened further North on Coberg Rd, say near Armitage Park, I doubt that I would have seen him, but maybe someone in that area did. Anyway, I just wish that when you report this stuff, you could narrow it down to a more specific area.

And in another article it has been suggested that they make a homeless camp site near a school!!! This kind of incident demonstrates exactly why some, not all...but some homeless are such a problem and danger to the community. With less county funds, less jail space and fewer officers and resources to respond to crime, we cannot afford to provide for MORE homeless in Eugene. Most certainly they should not be near a school.
