ALBANY, Ore. (KMTR) –- Albany Police are looking for a man accused of impersonating one of their own. The department reported a suspect in a police uniform contacted a resident on Monday night, July 16, 2012, at a home on the 1000 block of 16th Avenue SE in Albany.

According to the Albany Police Department (APD), the impersonator told the resident he was responding to a 'dog complaint'. The woman then showed the phony officer her dog and he left her home without incident. After he left, the woman became suspicious and called the Albany Police Department. The APD hadn’t dispatched any officers to her address. The woman said the fake police officer had a real APD uniform on; he also had a gun on his hip.

Police believe the man was driving an unmarked truck similar in make and model to Albany Police’s Ford F150s. The man is described at 5’ 7’’ tall, around 40 years of age, balding and overweight with mustache.

If you have any information, call Albany Police at 541 917-7680.

Albany Police notes if police officers or community services officers ever make contact with citizens on a complaint call, they will be in visibly marked cars.
