Eugene (KMTR) – An affordable housing project in northeast Eugene will delay construction, after one of the developers failed to secure state funding.  Saint Vincent de Paul is one of the groups behind Bascom Village, a 101-unit complex off Parkview Drive and County Farm Road.  St. Vinnie’s applied for $8 million in state funding, and hoped to start construction in spring 2013.  The application was denied, but St. Vinnie’s reps say they made a great case for the project, and hope to come up with the money next year.

Many neighbors of the property opposed the project from the start, and say they’ll use the extra time to keep fighting.  Some are concerned about property values dropping, and say the land could be better used for a private development to bring in much-needed tax dollars.
