Eugene/Springfield (KMTR) – Two drivers, one in Springfield and another in Eugene, led police on two high-speed pursuits; one Saturday night and one Sunday night.

A Eugene woman is facing several charges including reckless driving and DUII after the car she was driving crashed into a house in south Eugene Saturday evening.

Police say the woman had led them on a high speed chase after before she lost control.

A Lane County Sheriff’s deputy says he tried pulling over the SUV driven by Kristi Ann Schmidt, 39, of Eugene, at 8:16 p.m. Police say the SUV had been speeding past other cars and driving in the center lane near West 13th Avenue and Bertelsen Road. But instead of stopping, police say the woman sped off.

The driver turned on to josh street, lost control, and slammed into a house according to police. No one was hurt.

A pursuit of a stolen car ended in a fiery crash Sunday night near Springfield.

Officers spotted the stolen car and tried to pull it over around 8:40 p.m. at 42nd and Main Streets, but they say the car sped away. Eventually, the driver made his way to McKenzie View Drive where he abandoned the car.

Police say the car either blew a tire or had some sort of mechanical issue. The driver pulled over and ran from the car, but police dogs helped to quickly catch him. Meanwhile, the car burst into flames. Police think the mechanical problem may have ignited the fire.

Police arrested Robert Houston Owen, 28, of Eugene. Owen faces reckless driving charges, along with drug charges.

Springfield police say they had a previous run-in with Owen last week in a case involving another stolen car.
