Eugene (KMTR) – The 4J school district is notifying families of a security breach in the school’s computer system, affecting current students and those enrolled in 2007. Staff believe someone accessed student files on a district computer workstation last week, and discovered the breach over the weekend. The files that were accessed include student identity data, like addresses, dates of birth, and in some cases phone and Social Security numbers.
The district has already changed passwords, increased password protections, and scaled limited the amount of personal information shared in those files.
Parents can protect their children’s identities by alerting a consumer reporting agency. The district has provided step-by-step information about that reporting process on its website.
