EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) - Thousands are celebrating the Year of the Snake in Eugene this weekend with the 28
th Annual Oregon Asian Celebration.
The event kicked off Saturday morning, February 16 at the Lane Events Center, showcasing Asian cooking and craft demonstrations and also featuring Asian film, martial arts, visual arts, fine arts and more from dozens of different Asian nations.
For 2013, organizers are encouraging attendees to look at the things they do today and how they'll impact the future. The celebration is the largest west coast Asian culture event between Seattle and San Francisco.
"Other cities like Portland, they have little groups . . . there's a Chinese event, there's a Japanese event, there's a Korean event, but here we're a unified community-based teamwork event. That's the beauty of it all, that's the reason for our success, we are here to share culture. We love the diversity because it's not just about Asian people bringing together Asian people . . . it's really about sharing our education, sharing our culture and expressing diversity in this community,” said David Tam, Chair of the Asian Celebration Committee.
The celebration continues on Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM. Tickets are $6 each, but if you bring four cans of canned food, you can get one free admission. The canned food will benefit the Relief Nursery.
