TILLAMOOK, Ore. (KMTR) -- A woman found dead on Hwy 6 near Tillamook Friday night was a 16-year-old who was the victim of homicidal violence, police said.

Investigators identified 16-year-old Kayla Hendrickson after an autopsy Sunday morning that also revealed her death was caused by gunshot wounds, said Lieutenant Gregg Hastings with Oregon State Police.

A person of interest in the investigation died Saturday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in northern California, Hastings said.

The man who shot himself died at an area hospital and was reportedly known to Hendrickson. He is tentatively believed to be involved with her death, Hastings said.

His name is being withheld until his family is notified.

At around 10:15 PM Friday, a witnesses told police that a full-size late 1980s or early 1990s pickup truck was stopped on the north shoulder of the westbound lane of the highway between milepost 18 and 19.

The vehicle of the man involved in Hendrickson's death reportedly matched the one seen by witnesses.
