Florence (KMTR) – A 12-year-old Florence girl is looking for a few good volunteers—in fact, the more, the better. She’s once again organizing a community-wide day of action.Last month, the Florence City Council proclaimed July 21, 2012 as "Power of Florence Day.” Kaylee Graham shared that information when she spoke to the Florence Area Coordinating Council this week.
Kaylee organized the first "Power of Florence" event last summer to promote volunteerism. From fundraisers to service projects, such as park and highway cleanup, hundreds of people rolled up their sleeves and volunteered.
“Wherever you went you could just feel the ‘goodness vibes’ that, like, were everywhere,” remembers Kaylee. “It just was such a good day! I was so glad how it went.”
More than $7,000 was raised through various fundraisers. More than 3,000 pounds of food was collected for the Florence Food Share and 900 pounds of pet food was collected for the Florence Area Humane Society.
