Woman found in wreckage 8 hours after crash

ROSEBURG, Ore. - Gerard Gix was worried.

His wife left home before 9 a.m. Monday morning from their home on Echo Drive for a doctor's appointment.

She had yet to return home as of 5:30 p.m. He called the sheriff's office.

A Douglas County Sheriff's Deputy searched the route Sandra Gix would have taken from home to the doctor - and found her car off the road about 200 feet down an embankment on North Bank Road.

Investigators said Sandra Gix had crashed shortly after leaving home. Her injuries prevented her from crawling back up the embankment for help.

Medics got her out of the wreckage and took her to the hospital.

Officials from the hospital reported Tuesday afternoon that Sandra is listed in fair condition.
