Woman found dead in burning RV east of Florence

FLORENCE, Ore. - Firefighters found the remains of a woman inside a burned RV on Saturday night, Oregon State Police said.

The Lane County Medical Examiner tentatively identified the woman as 52-year-old Patricia Eilene Howell. Nothing indicates a cause of death other than fire, the investigation found.

Howell lived alone on the property on Highway 126, about 15 miles east of Florence, with her two dogs. Both dogs died in the fire.

Firefighters responded to the scene around 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

The fire burned two RVs. Howell and one of the dogs were found in one of the RVs. The other dog was in the second vehicle.

Investigators from OSP Major Crimes Section and Arson & Explosives Section, the Office of State Fire Marshal, and Lane County Medical Examiner's Office responded to the scene to investigate the death and cause of the fire. Investigators worked through Sunday afternoon at the scene.
