Torch run promotes Special Olympics

EUGENE, Ore. - Police ran through the streets Wednesday carry the Flame of Hope Torch for Special Olympics through Lane County.

This weekend, 150 athletes from Eugene and Springfield will compete in the Special Olympics.

Local coordinator Ted Barker has participated in the games for 22 years.

"What's fun is the interaction between the police officers and the athletes," he said, "and the athletes love the police officers and it goes both ways."
