SUTHERLIN, Ore. -- Looking to find a good town to settle down and raise a family? According to a website called NerdWallet, Sutherlin just might be that place.
Other cities on the list included Bandon, Oakridge, West Linn, Baker City and John Day.
The study named Sutherlin the second best city in Oregon to raise a family, neck and neck with Sublimity outside Salem.
They look at several different aspects of the towns, according to NerdWallet analyst Mike Anderson.
"We looked at quality of schools, affordability and income," he said. "I think those are the three principal factors when families are choosing a place to settle down.
KPIC News took a look at those numbers for ourselves.
According to the school report card posted on the district's website, Sutherlin schools failed to meet federal standards.
The 2010 census found that just over 14 percent of the population lives in poverty and the median household income was lower than the state average.
Folks in Sutherlin think it's a great place for a family to settle down, the city manager said.
No one else wanted to talk to a reporter on the topic Tuesday.
"From our family parades to our sporting events at the schools, to our community events, our Blackberry Festival and those types of things," said Sutherlin City Manager Jerry Gillham. "It really does paint a picture that we're a great community to raise a family."
