Storm makes a mess of filbert orchard

SAGINAW, Ore. - Filbert tree farmers are left picking up the pieces after the recent snowstorm that hit the Willamette Valley.

Jeff Belnap owns a filbert orchard near Saginaw. He's been growing filberts, also commonly known as hazelnuts, for over two decades, and says he's never seen his orchard quite like this week's storm left it.

He said thousands of limbs are left snapped in half and every now and then you stumble across full trees that look as if they've been plucked straight from the roots.
