Smoke alarms alert residents to fire

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. - Smoke alarms alerted residents to a house fire early Friday morning, allowing them to safely escape, South Lane County Fire and Rescue said.

The residents called firefighters, who knocked down flames and kept damage to a minimum.

The fire chief calls the incident a reminder of how important functioning smoke detectors can be.

“This is a clear example of how properly operating smoke detectors save lives,” Chief Dean Creech said. “With early detection of this fire, because of the smoke detector and early activation of 911, no lives were lost, no persons injured and property damage was very limited.”
