TANGENT, Ore. - A section of Oregon Highway 34 swelled up about a foot as a utility company drilled horizontally beneath the roadway, the Oregon Department of Transportation said.
A contractor for NW Natural Gas was boring under the road for a pipeline project.
As material built up, it put pressure under the road, lifting the surface up about a foot, according to ODOT.
The driller removed the material and the road settled down, ODOT said.
Experts will inspect the road surface for damage.
A traffic warning on TripCheck that said the road had collapsed was in error.
