Salem officer shoots woman after foot chase

SALEM, Ore. -- A police officer fatally shot a 25-year-old woman following a traffic stop Friday night, Salem Police officials said.

Authorities say no one else was hurt in the shooting.

The incident started just after 10 p.m. Friday when an officer pulled over a woman, later identified as Jacklynn Rashaun Ford, on Watson Ave. near Alameda St.

Police said Ford ran from the scene. The officer and his canine, Baco, chased after her.

In a press release, Salem Police said "Police say officers found a gun near the woman." Officials said the woman was hit by a gunshot; she was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Officers reported finding a gun next to Ford when they arrived on-scene.

State Police and the Marion County DA's office are looking into the officer-involved shooting.
