Report of explosion in Springfield; police find nothing

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Residents reported hearing an explosion Wednesday afternoon.

Police officers checked the area and found nothing, Sgt. Mike McCarthy with Springfield Police said.

The reports came in from around the area around 3:30 p.m.

"I live off 28th and Marcola in Springfield and have friends who were near Fred Meyers and the Thurston area that heard it as well, so not sure where it could be pin-pointed," Chrissy Gajda said. "But it was loud enough for many to hear and shook lots of people's houses."
