EUGENE, Ore.—Police, fire and power crews are spent Saturday night working one Eugene neighborhood hardest hit by a winter ice storm.
Police blocked off the area south of 13th Street and North of 23rd between Jefferson and Washington Streets while crews worked to clear broken branches and downed trees.
Power crews repaired live powerlines which fell across roads and sidewalks, but people are asked to stay inside as many trees continue to snap.
A live power line started a fire that completely destroyed a small arts and crafts shed at 2295 Jefferson St.
The largest tree damage was at 14th & Washington, where a tree pulled down a live powerline fell and blucked the intersection.
Police closed the roadway while crews handled the situation. Public works officials said more trees will fall overnight Saturday.
