Police: Man rams school bus, takes off pants, crashes into pond

CRESWELL, Ore. - A man rammed a school bus with his car on Interstate 5, then took off his pants as he tried to get inside the bus Tuesday afternoon.

The man drove off with two flat tires as police closed in, eventually veering off the interstate and crashing into a pond.

That's the story emerging as Oregon State Police work to piece together what happened on I-5 northbound near Creswell Tuesday.

State police got a report at 1:45 p.m. that the car and bus were stopped on the side of I-5. Another report indicated the man appeared to intentionally ram the bus with his car. Once the two vehicles had stopped, the man removed his pants while trying to climb aboard the bus, according to reports to state police.

A female bus driver was alone on the bus during the incident. No children were involved.

As police responded to the area, the suspect drove off. A state trooper tried to pull over the car, which was driving with two flat tires. Instead, the driver attempted to elude the trooper, police said.

The chase came to an end when the car left I-5, crashed through a fence and came to rest in a pond, submerged up to the windows.

The driver came ashore and surrendered to police around 1:55 p.m.

Police said medics are checking on the man's condition. Criminal charges are pending.
