Police: Man dressed as 'bank robber' arrested at coffee stand

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Police arrested a masked man early Friday morning after they say he ran up to a drive-through coffee place carrying airsoft guns, Springfield Police said.

The man, later identified as JohnMichael Alpers, 30, of Springfield, was taken into custody and booked at the Springfield Municipal Jail on disorderly conduct and menacing charges.

Officials said Alpers had been drinking before the incident. He told police he had been at a costume party at a lock bar dressed as a bank robber.

The incident started just after 5:30 a.m. Friday when an employee at Cool Beanz Coffee called police and reported seeing a man wearing a mask and bandanna approaching her kiosk with a rifle.

After locking herself inside the coffee stand, the employee reported hearing Alpers knock on the window and door while trying to talk to her.

Officers arrived on-scene shortly after and confronted Alpers, who they said was still holding the airsoft gun.
