Police: Man caught with meth after trying to steal lotto winnings

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Officers chased a man through a Springfield neighborhood Monday morning after they say he tried to steal lottery winnings from someone walking out of the Northgate Shopping Center.

Police responded to the attempted robbery call from Lucky Lil's Casino off Mohawk Blvd. at around 11:10 a.m. Monday.

Witnesses at the scene said that a man, later identified as 26-year-old Michael Bodine, ran off after he tried to take winnings from someone inside the lotto house. The victim managed to hold on to his property, police officials said.

Officers caught up with Bodine a few blocks away at the corner of 13th and Centennial Blvd.

Officials said that a chase ensued.

An officer reported catching Bodine after chasing the suspect over a couple fenced yards in a neighborhood.

Bodine, who officials say has a lengthy criminal record, was charged with robbery III, possession of meth and interfering with a police officer.
