Big rig hits tree, overturns blocking Hwy 126

BELKNAP HOT SPRINGS, Ore. - An Albany truck driver suffered minor injuries when he lost control of his big rig and it crashed into a tree, overturning and blocking Highway 126 for several hours Monday night.

Ricky J. Morin, 63, was taken by ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend for treatment of minor injuries.

Oregon State Police cited Morin for Fail to Drive Within a Lane.

The crash happened just after 5:30 p.m. Monday, about 5 miles east of Belknap Hot Springs.

The semi truck traveled off the shoulder for over 500 feet before crossing the highway and hitting a tree head-on, state police said.

The trailer, loaded with 20,000 pounds of dry goods, overturned and blocked the highway.

SANTIAM PASS -- Highway 126 is blocked Monday evening by an overturned semi truck near the Lane/Linn County border.

Oregon State Police reported at around 6 p.m. Monday that the commercial truck and trailer are blocking both the north and southbound lanes at milepost 13 near the Santiam Pass.

Tow trucks are headed to the crash scene, but officials said the trailer may have to be off-loaded before it can be moved out of the way. 

Oregon Dept. of Transportation officials reported that there is no detour in place, and ask that drivers either take a different route or expect delays. Check their website for current traffic conditions.
