Man on way to work killed on impact when 1972 Triumph Spitfire hits tree

NEWPORT, Ore. - A man on his way to work died when his 1972 Triumph Spitfire went off the road and hit a tree, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said.

Jason Sparks, 42, of Newport died on impact, the sheriff said.

A passerby found Sparks dead in the Triumph off the side of Yaquina Bay Road east of Newport around 1:15 p.m.

The exact time of the crash is not known, but investigators said it happened after Sparks left home for work at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Crash reconstrunctionists determined speed was a factor in the crash, the sheriff's office said.
