SEAL ROCK, Ore. -- A man was cited for reckless burning early Wednesday morning after police say he lit an aerial firework that inadvertently set his girlfriend's pickup on fire.
Sheriff's deputies and a crew from Seal Rock Fire Department were called out to a vehicle fire at a home near Seal Rock at around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday. Dispatchers reported they had already received several complaints of fireworks earlier that night.
Deputies found that Sterling Morris, 38 of Toledo, had set off a large illegal firework and a burning remnant from the aerial firework landed on the canopy of a nearby pickup truck.
Officials said the pickup, which belonged to Morris's girlfriend, caught fire and burned beyond repair.
Morris received a criminal citation for reckless burning.
