SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Motorists on Bob Straub Parkway will see signs this week asking witnesses to a fatal confrontation on the roadway earlier this year to come forward with any information they may have.
Sign holders will be out Tuesday, August 5, 2014 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to dark to encourage potential witnesses to a January 29, 2014, altercation that left one man dead and another charged with his murder.
That's the day Gerald Strebendt shot and killed David Crofut, according to police.
Strebendt claimed self-defense in the aftermath of the shooting.
He has since been charged with murder in Crofut's slaying.
“It is critical that motorists, passengers or anyone who witnessed any part of the confrontation between Gerald and David Crofut on Bob Straub Parkway contact our office,” said Mike Arnold with Arnold Law in Eugene, Strebendt’s legal team. “It is important that all of the details about what happened between the two men be gathered to ensure that Gerald receives a fair trial.”
Drivers heading either direction on Bob Straub Parkway on January 29, 2014, can contact Strebendt’s investigative team at 888-461-3065 or through www.GeraldStrebendt.com with information.
“Our client Gerald Strebendt has instructed me and Arnold Law Firm to gather as much information as possible,” Arnold said. “We are leaving no stone unturned in our search for witnesses. That is why our team is holding signs along Bob Straub Parkway: to encourage people who saw what happened to come forward.”
