LCC 'Beer and Bounty' dinner aims to raise $50K

EUGENE, Ore. — Lane Community College students are preparing for the inaugural “Al Fresco! Beer and Bounty” dinner.

The August 20 event gives students a hands-on learning opportunity, while helping raise money to maintain the learning garden and make technology upgrades at the Center for Meeting and Learning.

Original recipes, using produce grown in the school’s learning garden, will be paired with Ninkasi beer.

Ninkasi’s founding brewer worked with culinary students on the project, but people across several departments are involved in the event.

“This is a collaborative event, designed primarily to create relevant learning opportunities that can add to students’ curriculum,” said Paula Westgate, Coordinator of Conference Services at the school.

Construction technology students designed and built tables; hospitality students are coordinating service for guests; and those studying diesel technology and fabrication welding prepared the site.

The event will accommodate 226 diners, who will also be invited to enjoy live music and a silent auction.

The goal is to raise $50,000.

Tickets are $75 each and may be purchased at www.lanecc.edu/center or by calling Paula Westgate at (541) 463-3500.
