Injured fishing crewmember brought ashore by Coast Guard

COOS BAY, Ore. - An EMT from Bay City ambulance joined a Coast Guard Motor Life Boat crew in evacuating an injured fisherman from a boat 40 miles off the Oregon Coast.

The 37-year-old crewmember had suffered possible interal injuries aboard the American Triumph, a 285-foot commercial fishing and processing vessel.

The vessel contacted the Coast Guard at approximately 3:30 p.m. Sunday to request a medevac.

Coast Guard Sector North Bend, Ore., dispatched a 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew from Coast Guard Station Coos Bay. An EMT from a Bay City ambulance accompanied the crew to assist.

The boat crew met the American Triumph and took the man back to awaiting emergency medical services at the station.

He was taken from the Coast Guard Station to Bay Area Hospital, where he was treated and released.
