Group wants to ask Lane County voters to ban GMO crops

EUGENE, Ore. - A group called Support Local Food Rights wants to put a measure on the November 2014 ballot asking voters to ban genetically modified crops in Lane County.

Ann Kneeland, a member of the group, said people have the power to stop GMOs at the local level.

"We're worried that as corporations continue to push the introduction of genetically modified crops, that our local food system will be destroyed," Kneeland said.

The group filed the initiative with the Lane County Elections office. The next step is to get a ballot title. Then the group can start collecting signatures.
