Food stamp cuts take effect as food bank supply hits all-time low

EUGENE, Ore. - 85,000 Lane County residents will see a decrease in the amount they get for food stamps each month, starting Nov. 1.

Food for Lane County says while their food supply is normally lower this time of year, it's the lowest it's ever been.

They also say this comes at a time the demand has never been so high.

A family of four will see a $36 dollar a month cut, which Food for Lane County says equals 24 meals.

One mom spoke to KMTR NewsSource 16 about how even before the cut, her family struggled to make it through the month with their food stamps.
