House in fire's aftermath

EUGENE, Ore. - Firefighters rescued a dog from a house fire and resuscitated the pet early Monday morning.

The dog was taken to an emergency vet and is expected to recover.

The parents and child in the house got out OK.

Another dog and a cat both died from smoke inhalation as the fire ripped through the garage and attic of the Park Avenue home in north Eugene.

The first report came in just before 2 a.m. The fire crews arrived on the scene within 5 minutes and found the residents were out of the house.

Firefighters said the single-car attached garage was on fire when they arrived.

Crews kept the flames from spreading to the main living area, but smoke caused damage throughout the house, the fire department said.

The fire also damaged a car parked in the driveway.

The damage to property is estimated at $150,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
