Fire starts in empty apartment, spreads to business

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A fire in an empty apartment in Roseburg early Tuesday morning damaged the apartment and a local business.

Fire crews were called to 620 W. Fairhaven at about midnight, after a neighbor reported smelling smoke and hearing a smoke detector in the apartment complex.

Fire crews say they had to force entry into the apartment and Tim's Appliance store to knock down the fire.

Officials say the fire left the apartment and business with smoke damage.

Fire investigators say the fire started in a garbage can inside the bathroom of the empty apartment.

Authorities say they are looking for the last known occupants of the apartment.

Officials estimate the damage to the apartment and business to be at least $10,000.
