EUGENE, Ore. -- A smokey fire set off the emergency sprinkler system inside Sports Authority Saturday afternoon, fire officials said.
Firefighters arrived at the store inside Valley River Center just before 12:30 p.m. Friday to find a small electrical fire.
Eugene fire chief Jeff Kronser said that the fire produced a lot of smoke and caused a sprinkler to activate on the second floor. The sprinkler system managed to contain the fire until crews arrived, chief Kronser added.
Officials said the smoke damaged some parts of the roof and walls. Store managers reported some of the store's products kept on the second floor were also damaged.
Kronser said the store will remain open while their team conducts an investigation.
