SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - An exhibit celebrating car culture opens Friday at the Springfield Museum and runs through August 3.

Part of the exhibit remembers Eric Sanders, a local hot rodder who passed away five years ago. When Sanders died, his ashes were taken to the Bonneville Salt Flats and released when his souped up hot rod hit 225 mph.

Eric's brother, Rick, donated several pieces for the exhibit and plans to bring a 1947 Cadillac that he and his brother rebuilt, said Jim Cupples, the museum's executive director. Another dozen or more classic cars from a local club will be there.

The opening reception starts at 5 p.m. and goes until 8 p.m. Admission to the museum is free of charge.
