ROSEBURG, Ore. – After months of training from Dogs for the Deaf, a Boston Terrier/Border Collie mix named Braun was ready to meet his new owner, Ginny Reardon.
Chelsey West was one of the trainers at Dogs for the Deaf in Central Point, Ore. that worked to get the rescue dog from California certified as a service dog.
Braun met Ginny Reardon on Tuesday, and the pair has spent the rest of the week bonding.
"He's going to alert her to sounds going off," West explained. "The oven timer, someone knocking at the door, the smoke alarm, her alarm clock in the morning."
As a certified service dog, Braun will be able to go with Reardon into public places to work. Reardon said she's thankful to have Braun help her catch all the sounds she can't.
“The knowledge of going to sleep at night and he's there to help me hear whatever needs to be heard. It's just going to be fantastic … having somebody else there to help me hear,” said Reardon.
Ginny said she can't wait to take Braun to work with her on Monday.
