Deadly crash closes Centennial Blvd. at Pioneer Pkwy. in Springfield
Springfield Police investigate a fatal car crash Sunday, June 15 at the intersection of Centennial Blvd. and Pioneer Pkwy.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- A woman died in a car crash Sunday morning at the intersection of Pioneer Parkway and Centennial Boulevard, Springfield Police said.

Officials said two others involved in the crash were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers were called out to the intersection at around 10 a.m. Sunday.

Crash investigators said they believe a minivan, driven by Tayla Biehler, 32, of Eugene, was headed south on Pioneer Parkway when it went through a red light.

Biehler's van struck a red Chevrolet 4-door driven by Robert Mayfield, 75 of Springfield, officials said.

Emergency crews pronounced Mayfield's passenger, 74-year-old Virginia Mayfield, dead at the scene.

Both drivers were taken to Sacred Heart at Riverbend, they are expected to survive their injuries.

Springfield Police closed down the intersection for several hours to reconstruct the crash.
