Railroad crossing gates drop without an oncoming train

EUGENE, Ore. -- Railroad crossbars blocked traffic around Eugene Friday afternoon when the gates came down at numerous track intersections without  being triggered by an oncoming train.

Police officials said they are still looking into what caused the crossbars to come down just after noon on Friday. Officers have since diverted traffic around many of the intersections.

Crews are still trying to find an explanation for why the crossing gates became stuck in the deployed position.
