Crashes snarl Beltline traffic
An ODOT traffic camera looking east from Coburg road panned south to show the extent of the backup over the flyover and onto I-5

EUGENE, Ore. - Multiple car crashes on Beltline Road backed up traffic in both directions Tuesday morning, with traffic visibly backing up onto the flyover ramp from Interstate 5.

Five people were injured in the series of crashes involving 7 cars, police said. All five are expected to be OK.

Police advised avoiding the Beltline between Coburg Road and Delta Highway for more than hour during the busy lunch rush.

The Oregon Department of Transportation said multi-car crash closed both lanes of Beltline westbound near Coburg Road around 11 a.m. Two lanes re-opened around noon, with only the far righthand lane closed a little longer while the vehicles were removed.

During the closure, traffic backed up over the flyover ramp from I-5 northbound to Beltline westbound and into the Gateway area.

Around the same time, TripCheck also showed a crash partially blocking eastbound Beltline west of Delta Highway, with traffic backed up to River Road.
