Bus and sedan collide, police close downtown intersection

EUGENE, Ore. -- An LTD bus collided with a Subaru Outback at the intersection of 7th Ave. at Garfield in Eugene Saturday night, prompting officers to close down the area for three hours for a crash investigation.

Emergency crews were called out to the crash just before 9 p.m. Saturday after getting reports that a bus had crashed into a vehicle.

Eugene Police spokeswoman Melinda McLaughlin said that Isaac Joseph Betty, 30, of Eugene, was driving on Garfield St. when he ran a red light and hit the LTD bus heading west on 7th Ave.

The bus driver and a woman riding the bus complained of injuries after the crash.

Police issued a citation for the crash, McLaughlin said.

Officials closed the intersection, near where Highway 99 southbound turns into the one-way 7th Street,  until midnight while investigators worked the crash scene.
