2 injured when passing semi hits pickup making lefthand turn

CRESCENT, Ore. - Two people suffered injuries when a semi hit a pickup while trying to pass on Highway 97 on Friday morning, Oregon State Police said.

The driver of the pickup, 57-year-old Johnny Panos, was rushed by air ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend.

Panos was starting to turn left from the southbound lane of Hwy 97 south of Crescent when his Toyota was hit by a semi truck attempting to pass the pickup.

The impact sent the pickup off the road.

The semi overturned, blocking the highway.

The driver of the semi, 23-year-old Daniel Rylee, of Council Bluff, Iowa, suffered minor injuries, police said.

The crash happened around 10:20 a.m. One lane of Hwy 97 was open around the crash by 2:30 p.m.

Police said an initial report of a downed power line was in error.

CRESCENT, Ore. - A serious injury crash blocked Highway 97 near Crescent on Friday morning.

The identities of the people involved and the extent of their injuries are not yet known.

Oregon State Police said the highway is blocked, and power lines are down.

There are initial conflicting reports from state police and the Oregon Department of Transportation about whether the crash is north or south of Crescent on Hwy 97.
