COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. - Flames swept through a rental home in Cottage Grove Monday morning, leaving a family of 11 without a house.
The fire chief said that everyone made it out of the house safely before firefighters arrived on-scene.
South Lane Fire crews were called out to the house on Fillmore Ave. just before 11 a.m. Monday. Firefighters arrived to find the house fully involved, South Lane officials said.
Firefighters quickly got the blaze under control, however everything inside the structure was destroyed with an initial damage totaling $200,000.
Officials said the family of 11, with children from high school age to an infant, didn't have renter's insurance.
The family regrouped with neighbors while the Red Cross worked to find temporary lodging, the South Lane Fire Chief said.
Donations of items for the family are being taken at the Cottage Grove Station of South Lane County Fire and Rescue.
